A. Preliminary Studies
Analysis of the characteristics of the site in relation to the purposes to be served by the development: necessary conferences, investigation, and the preparation of studies, drawings and estimates to describe, in an overall sense, a recommended design. After the preliminaries have been evaluated and approved by the client, the landscape architect will prepare working drawings.
In some cases it is desirable to further refine the preliminary plan and prepare a General Plan or a Master Plan to record permanently the entire original plan of development. This overall plan becomes especially valuable in cases where the development is carried on over a long period of time and will assure that the original concept remains in tact.
B. Working Drawings and Specifications
Construction and other Working Drawings and specifications will serve as the contract documents, describing in detail the work to be done and the materials and workmanship to be used. This phase includes the preparation of forms of proposal, assistance in the obtaining of bids and the preparation of the construction contract.
C. Services During the Construction Phase
During this phase the landscape architect furnishes general administration of the construction contract. He observes the work in progress by periodic visits to the site to assure that the plans and specifications are being followed; prepares supplementary design refinements and detailed drawings as may be required; issues change orders and certificates of payment.
